Waffles with the Sisters
Recently, we’ve started inviting Sisters to bake items for our Saturday and Sunday breakfasts at the monastery. The result has been a wonderful variety of homemade treats—muffins, coffee cakes, rolls, and all kinds of breakfast bars.
Since we already have a waffle maker at our house (and I borrowed my parents’ as well), I decided to do something a little extra special: one weekend day each month, I make waffles for my fellow Sisters. I usually put up a sign letting everyone know there will be fresh waffles available for a specific amount time. The Sisters stop by, and I make each waffle to order so they can enjoy it warm right off the iron.

We also set out an assortment of toppings so everyone can build their waffle just the way they like it. As you can imagine, this means mixing up a lot of waffle batter. And yes—it requires a bowl so big it makes you stop and wonder…can you imagine cooking with a bowl that size?
