Sisters Under 55 Gather to Build Community
At the beginning of July, five Sisters from Monastery Immaculate Conception in Ferdinand traveled to Duluth, Minnesota, to join 29 other Benedictine Sisters from across the United States for a special gathering of Sisters under the age of 55.
Held every other year, the gathering offers younger Benedictine Sisters an opportunity to deepen friendships, share experiences, and strengthen their commitment to Benedictine life. This year’s event brought together 34 Sisters representing Benedictine communities from around the country for several days of learning, prayer, service, and fun.
Throughout the gathering, the Sisters participated in presentations, group discussions, games, and a service project, creating opportunities to grow together both personally and spiritually. While each community has its own unique traditions and ministries, the gathering celebrated the common values that unite Benedictine women: prayer, hospitality, community, and service.
One highlight of the event was reconnecting with friends made through previous national gatherings. Over the years, these meetings have created lasting friendships among Sisters serving in Benedictine communities across the country. These relationships continue to grow through shared experiences, laughter, encouragement, and a common commitment to Benedictine life. Even when some friends are unable to attend, their presence is still felt and their connections remain an important part of the community built through these gatherings.
The gathering also included time with the presidents of the participating Benedictine congregations and the event’s presenter. Their encouragement and leadership continue to nurture these gatherings and inspire younger Sisters to embrace the future of Benedictine life with hope.
As Benedictine communities continue exploring new ways to collaborate, gatherings like this one are an important reminder that the future is strengthened through relationships. By sharing ideas, supporting one another, and building connections across congregations, these Sisters are helping shape the next chapter of Benedictine life in the United States.
The Sisters from Ferdinand returned home grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with friends, make new connections, and experience the hope and energy that comes from gathering with women who share the same calling.
Together, these Benedictine Sisters continue to show that although they serve in different communities and ministries across the country, they remain united in their commitment to seeking God, serving others, and building a future rooted in faith, collaboration, and joyful community.
