Sister Becky Mathauer Celebrates her Silver Jubilee.
Twenty-five years ago, Sister Rebecca Ann “Becky” Mathauer made her profession as a Sister of St. Benedict, dedicating her life to prayer, community, hospitality and service in the Benedictine tradition. This weekend, during a lovely Jubilee Mass at Monastery Immaculate Conception Church, the community celebrated her Silver Jubilee and her renewal of monastic profession with gratitude and joy.

A Silver Jubilee is a beautiful milestone in the life of a Benedictine sister. It marks 25 years of faithfully living the vows of stability, fidelity to monastic life, and obedience, not just within the monastery walls, but also through ministries that touch countless lives.
For Sister Becky, the past quarter-century has been filled with teaching, mentoring and accompanying young people in faith. Although she originally studied pastoral ministry and youth ministry, she discovered a calling she never expected: education. What began as volunteering in a classroom eventually grew into a lifelong ministry serving at Catholic schools in Louisville, Indianapolis, Evansville, and, most recently, Dubois County.
Sister Becky just concluded her final year of teaching theology, English, and writing at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Jasper, where she has been inspiring middle school students with both knowledge and compassion for 14 years. As someone who describes herself as a struggling student growing up, she says one of the greatest joys of teaching has been seeing “the light bulb go on” when a student finally understands something for the first time.
Her ministry extends beyond the classroom as well. Sister Becky serves as Sister Liaison for the monastery’s Oblate community, helping lay men and women deepen their Benedictine spirituality and connection to the Sisters. And later this year, she will begin working with our Mission Advancement team.
Throughout her journey, Sister Becky says she has continually discovered the beauty of balancing prayer and ministry, a hallmark of Benedictine life. Reflecting on her very first visit to Ferdinand as a young college student, she says simply, “I knew I was home.”
During Saturday’s Mass, Sister Becky participated in the Rite for Renewal of Monastic Profession, renewing the vows she first professed 25 years ago.
As we celebrate Sister Becky’s Silver Jubilee, we also celebrate you. Your prayers, generosity and support make ministries like hers possible…ministries that shape young hearts, strengthen faith communities and continue the Benedictine mission for future generations.
Please join us in congratulating Sister Becky and praying for many more years of joyful service.
