Mother Seraphine Kordes

Prioress from 1914-1949
Mother Seraphine entered the convent in 1884. Soon her leadership was evident when she became involved in helping St. Meinrad at the time of their abbey’s disastrous fire. She served as prioress from 1914 until 1949. She was known as a builder. She was a builder of the church which was started in 1914, St. Benedict Hall, and St. Joseph Hall. In 1940, she and the Ferdinand sisters entered heartily into the centennial celebration of the city of Ferdinand. She was much loved by the local town people and they entered heartily into her golden jubilee of vows celebration in 1938.
