Benedictine Family Scholar House
The Sisters of St. Benedict in Ferdinand, Indiana are proud to partner with Family Scholar House on their newest campus to be located near Ivy Tech Community College in Sellersburg, Indiana. The Sellersburg location, which is named Benedictine Family Scholar House, will be the first Family Scholar House campus in Indiana.
The mission of Family Scholar House is “to end the cycle of poverty and transform our community by empowering families and youth to succeed in education and achieve life-long self-sufficiency.” The primary way they accomplish that mission is to build complexes adjacent to college campuses where single mothers and their children can live while Mom pursues a degree. Each Family Scholar House campus also makes a wealth of resources available for the families they serve, and the happy result is a growing number of families who are breaking free of generational poverty and achieving independence for themselves and generations to come.

The Sisters of St. Benedict see a natural connection between our own mission, especially our values of prayer, service, community and hospitality, and that of Family Scholar House.
The Benedictine Family Scholar House will consist of thirty six units assembled into two buildings to house 36 single parent families, each with a single mom pursuing a college degree. Each apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, living room, two bedrooms, two baths and a small laundry room, with washers and dryers donated by GE Appliances, a Haier company.
