Geothermal Installation

Did you know much of Monastery Immaculate Conception is still heated with old steam and natural gas boilers, with some areas still serviced by radiators that were installed over 100 years ago? Keeping all of that functioning for so long is a testament to the great care the sisters give to the resources entrusted to them. However, the time has come for the long-term costs of maintaining such inefficient HVAC systems to be addressed.

By upgrading to an eco-friendly geothermal system, the sisters will have much more control over the temperature and humidity of the monastery. Further, they will save thousands of dollars annually on heating and cooling costs—savings that can be redirected to the sisters’ vital ministries, from supporting vulnerable youth to providing spiritual care to the sick and dying.

Geothermal systems harness the Earth’s stable underground temperatures via a network of subterranean pipes to efficiently warm and cool buildings. This renewable energy source will reduce both the monastery’s carbon footprint and utility bills while aligning with Pope Francis’ call in Laudato Si’ to care for creation and adopt sustainable practices for the common good.
