Ferdinand Christkindlmarkt
Herald in the Markt!
The Ferdinand Christkindlmarkt, held the third full weekend in November annually, features over 200 lavishly decorated booths hand-created items, antiques, art, Christmas wares, delicious regional food and wine, live entertainment, a free concert, free tours of Monastery Immaculate Conception and much more!
Join us for the Opening Ceremonies on the west side of the Monastery at the Crypt Doors Friday, November 14, at 6:30 p.m. EST. There, the Christkindl (or Christmas Angel) will appear, as she has done at Nuremberg, Germany’s Christkindlmarkts for over 500 years. Children will light the way as trumpeters herald in the markt, choirs sing, and the Sisters of St. Benedict Monastery Bell Choir will perform. This outdoor Christkindlmarkt Eve event is free and open to all who want to enjoy a little Christmas magic by candlelight. In the case of rain, everything will be held inside the crypt. Following the ceremony, step inside the crypt to purchase delectable Monastery Baked Goods, or reserve a spot to enjoy a 7:00 pm. dinner with entertainment in Monastery Immaculate Conception.
During the weekend festivities, Monastery Baked Goods will be joining other vendors in the Monastery’s Event Hall to sell specially-made gourmet goodies and all your regular favorites from the bakery! Attendees can also partake in free guided tours of the Monastery Immaculate Conception on November 16 from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. EST and 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. EST, and on November 17 from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. EST.
Talented members of the Evansville Philharmonic will be performing a “Sounds of the Season” Concert featuring seasonal and traditional Christmas music in the beautiful Monastery Immaculate Conception Church on Saturday, November 15 from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m. EST. As there is no admission to the concert, a freewill offering is encouraged. Concert is sponsored by the Ferdinand Tourism Commission
