Sister Mary Ruth Krack looks over an antique sewing machine that will be sold.Like mushrooms on the first warm days of spring, yard sale items seem to be popping up everywhere around the monastery these days. That's because we are participating in Ferdinand's annual town-wide yard sale on Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5.

Sister Mary Ruth Krack, chief organizer of the monastery yard sale, looks over an antique sewing machine that will be sold. The yard sale will take place in Madonna Hall on April 4 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and April 5 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.

Sisters play dominoesTwo women came to our monastery this weekend to experience life in a Benedictine monastery. They participated in our community life — joining us in prayer, work, and recreation — and listened to presentations by some sisters on the theme of “Conversion in Fidelity to the Monastic Way of Life.” Benedictine Life Weekends are open to single Catholic women, ages 18 to 40, who want to learn more about our monastic way of life. The next Benedictine Life event is June 27 – July 3.

On Saturday evening the sisters and visiting women gathered for recreation — games of Pictionary, dominoes, cards, and scrabble.

The Golf committee members began planning for the sixth annual Dome Classic golf scrambleAfter double bogeys — cancellations of two previously scheduled meetings because the weather wasn't up to par — the golf committee finally teed off its planning for the 2008 Dome Classic Golf Scramble. This sixth annual golf scramble, a fun and fund raising event for the Sisters of St. Benedict, will be held at the classic, recently restored Donald Ross Course at French Lick, Indiana, on September 8. For those of you who like to putt around, get a team together and make plans to be a part of the fun and excitement of the 2008 Dome Classic Golf Scramble. A mega raffle and a banquet on September 7 are also part of the plans. More information will be coming. If you can’t wait, call 812-367-1411, ext. 2631. Take a cue from the coming of spring when you'll soon be seeing greens and getting birdies.
