Part-time Pantry Aides

Effective immediately, we have two part-time positions for pantry aides in the monastery kitchen. One shift is from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. two to three days per week; the other is from 4 to 7:30 p.m. three to four days per week. Both shifts include working every other weekend. Basic responsibilities of the job are:

  • Helping to set up meal trays
  • Transporting food to residents
  • Cleaning tables and work area
  • Pouring beverages
  • Operating industrial size dishwasher
  • Stocking of some supplies

Director of Development

The Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Indiana, are seeking a new Director of Development to plan, implement, and coordinate all their fundraising activities for the Annual Fund, manage the staff and office duties of the Mission Advancement Office, and oversee his/her own portfolio of donors/prospects.

From their founding in 1867, the Sisters of St. Benedict of Ferdinand, Indiana, have been touching countless lives through their prayer, their ministry, and their work. The sisters live the 1,500-year-old monastic tradition of the Rule of St. Benedict, a spiritual path for finding God in daily life. Today the 173 Ferdinand Benedictines minister in diverse ways—in schools, parishes, church institutions, health care facilities, retreat centers, and social service agencies.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree coupled with three to five years of progressively responsible fundraising experience. The candidate must have the ability to connect with supporters and effectively communicate the values and needs of the Sisters of St. Benedict.

The successful candidate will be an articulate individual with personal integrity and strong interpersonal skills, who is creative, flexible, organized, and self-motivated, with superlative planning and follow-through. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential. Computer literacy and knowledge of Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge are highly desirable.

The candidate must be able and willing to travel, as well as to work outside the normal workday.

The present Mission Advancement Office consists of five Gift Officers and four in support services. They are responsible for raising at least $2 million in revenue through face-to-face solicitations, planned gifts, direct mail, special events, and various other sources.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Has primary responsibility for creating, planning, and implementing a well-rounded program of annual funds. Provides and supervises staffing of all positions in the areas of Annual Fund, direct mail, data processing, gifts processing, stewardship, special events, prospect research, prospect management support systems, and office management.
  2. Provides support and participates in the planning and execution of major fundraising programs, especially in developing and carrying out strategies for the solicitation of leadership and major gifts.
  3. Conducts regular visits with major and leadership gift prospects for a maximum of 30% of his/her time each week, or 8 to 12 visits per month for cultivation and solicitation. Maintains a personal portfolio of prospects at significant giving levels.
  4. Is responsible for the preparation and monitoring of the Mission Advancement Office’s annual goals and annual budget.
  5. Oversees the production of all promotional literature, including newsletters, mission advancement brochures, and annual reports.
  6. Maintains an active and aggressive program of donor acquisition and direct mail and works closely with the Coordinator of Annual Giving.
  7. Maintains all responsibility for gift income reports and analysis.
  8. Supports the process of planned and deferred gifts (literature/mailings/events).
  9. Provides support services and systems for all major gifts work (prospect management and tracking).
  10. Is primarily responsible for grants, identifying and cultivating foundations and corporations to match funding needs. Works with grant writers in preparing applications and gathering the necessary information from needed sources.
  11. Maintains a program of communication about Mission Advancement with both the religious community and the wider publics.
  12. Organizes special fundraising committees and task forces as appropriate. Communicates effectively with these bodies in mustering their support and talents in approaching funding sources, and assists in recruiting volunteers for the Mission Advancement efforts.
  13. Represents the Mission Advancement Office at appropriate meetings such as, but not limited to, internal meetings of the Administrative Staff, Business Office/Mission Advancement Directors, and external meetings such as Kiwanis or Chamber meetings, Partners’ Breakfasts, St. Hildegard Dinner, Dubois County Community Foundation, etc.
  14. Acts on behalf of the Director of Mission Advancement in situations requiring action when the Director is absent or unavailable. Performs other duties reasonably requested by the Director of Mission Advancement.

Strong interpersonal, organization, analytical, and leadership skills. Highly entrepreneurial, resourceful, and flexible.

Energetic and willing to work hands-on in developing and executing a variety of fundraising activities.

A team builder with strong skills in servant leadership and organizational management skills to supervise staff of the department, fundraising and communications procedures, long-range and strategic planning.

Knowledge of various computer software programs (including Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite, Windows , and Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge).

Ability to communicate persuasively the mission and values of the Sisters of St. Benedict, both in writing and orally; ability to write and speak in a creative and persuasive manner; ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret challenging texts.

Strong relational skills with all kinds of individuals and a deep commitment to the long-term success of the Mission Advancement Office and the Sisters of St. Benedict’s mission and ministry.

The incumbent will have an opportunity to succeed the Director of Mission Advancement.

Part-time Maintenance

Effective immediately, we have an opening for part-time General Maintenance Associate in the Sisters of St. Benedict maintenance department with experience in electrical work and refrigeration. Basic responsibilities of the job are:

  • Lubricate and clean equipment, i.e. pumps, motors, fans, and machinery, etc.
  • Clear stoppages in sanitary or storm drainage systems
  • Regulate steam or hot water equipment
  • Perform minor repairs and upkeep to buildings
  • Experience in electrical and refrigeration a plus.
